A loan of $550 helped to acquire cattle and increase milk production.

Luis Alcides's story

Luis, 45, is divorced. He completed elementary school but did not have the resources needed to continue with his education. He lives with his 13-year-old son who is attending secondary school. They live in Recinto Bellavista, a sector with humid climate in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Province, a key province where the coastal and mountain regions of Ecuador meet. Its economy has developed thanks to tourism, commerce, agriculture and animal husbandry.

Luis started his milk business in this province with great opportunities for entrepreneurship 12 years ago. He spends long hours of hard work at it every day of the week. Luis approached Fundación Alternativa to request a loan to buy cattle to increase the production of milk that he sells locally. Luis hopes to give his son the opportunity of studying a profession and he’s sure that he’ll stay firm towards his goals despite obstacles that arise when his animals get sick and losses are incurred.
