A loan of $350 helped a member to buy fertilizer and to pay for weeding.

Sokhei's Group's story

As one of the breadwinners in the family, Sokhei is a farmer growing cassava and cashews in order to support her three children. Two of her children are students and one is helping the family's business. She has been engaged in this business for seven years. For this business, the dropping price in the market is the key challenge for her as it affects her income. Sokhei has been with Kiva's partner VisionFund for five loans. After each loan has been repaid, she feels empowered to upgrade her living conditions better than before. Now, she forms a group of two to apply for a new loan. The other member is a first-time borrower and seeks a loan of 1,000,000 KHR. As the group leader requesting a loan of 400,000 KHR, Sokhei will use her portion to buy fertilizer and to pay for weeding for her cassava field. Moreover, she will use a portion of it to buy rubber plant seedlings for resale for additional income. She hopes to make more income from her business so as she can maintain her lifestyle.
