A loan of $1,150 helped to buy furniture and furniture-making supplies.

Aura Manuelita's story

Aura’s a member of the “Santa Bárbara” communal bank in Coronel Portillo District, Ucayali Department. She’s 62-years-old, married and has three children. She’s been working with Manuela Ramos loans for many years and she owns a furniture store where she works all day. Her son and daughter-in-law help her, though, because when customers come by she does not have staff to take care of them when she has to go to the warehouse to get the furniture; someone has to stay at the store. She will use her 3000 new sol loan to buy ten unfinished tables, ten cots, six double beds, ten single beds, 50 stools, 2 armoires, 2 gallons of lacquer and 2 kilos of cleaning rags. This business produces good profits and she reinvests all of them in order to have all kinds of furniture and provide good customers service. She likes what she does and focuses all her time into seeing that things are done well. Her husband’s retired and it makes him very happy that his wife has her own business.
