A loan of $600 helped to buy seeds, compost, and animal feed.

Mayra Alexandra's story

Sra. Mayra joined the Communal Bank after receiving an invitation from her sister and is now receiving her second loan. She lives in the neighborhood of Miraflores in the city of Cuenca, which is known for its cold climate and its warm-hearted people who have maintained the culture and traditions of their ancestors.

Sra. Mayra is 24 years old, married, and has a five-year-old daughter. Her husband is employed at a seafood stand. They own the house in which they live.

Doña Mayra takes care of their home and also spends time raising animals such as sheep, chickens, guinea pigs, and pigs. She also plants vegetables on her land and then sells them later. Mayra learned from her mother how to make woven straw hats. All of these business activities enable her to contribute toward the household expenses. Her loan will be invested in the purchase of seeds, compost, and feed for her animals.

Mayra’s goal is to have her own vending stall at the city market where she can sell her vegetables.
