A loan of $1,150 helped to purchase various flavors of soft drinks and ice cream.

Isabel's story

Isabel, 52, is a hardworking, happy and charismatic woman. She is married to Marden, who is a laborer, and they have been together for many years. They have four children as the fruit of their union; the oldest three are already self-supporting. The couple lives with their youngest daughter, Janise, 21, in their own home.

Isabel has a business selling a well known brand-name ice cream and different flavors and brands of soft drinks. She has a refrigerator installed in her house that she was able to purchase with her own earnings. She notes that there is a great demand for her products during the summer months, when she is busy waiting on her customers.

She started this business with her husband more than four years ago with a loan from MFP and it has helped pay for part of their expenses. Her husband still helps her in his spare time. She likes her business because of the income, which pays for household expenses. Now that she has her last daughter at home, she is also able to provide her with an education as she did for her older children.

She also continues running her business not only due to the need to have an income but also in order to feel that she is a productive person. She notes that running this business always keeps her active and she wants to continue looking for ways to make it grow and earn higher profits.

This is her 13th loan from MFP and she is pleased with the financial support that she has been receiving. Consequently she is committed to continuing to make her payments on time as she has done with previous loans. She is also pleased with her communal bank and considers its members to be responsible and supportive people. She will use all of the money she has requested, S/. 3,000, to buy more products for her business, such as brand-name ice cream and various flavors and brands of soft drinks. Thus she will the stock available to sell and be able to earn a higher income.
