A loan of $4,225 helped a member to buy beauty products.

Los Alamos Group's story

The community bank “Los Alamos” is starting its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer, through the organization's regional office in Villa Exaltación. The group is comprised of eleven members and is overseen by a board of directors, of which Gladys is the president. The community bank members are involved in a variety of businesses, including the sale of beauty products, sports clothes, children's clothing, quilts, and furniture. Other businesses include shelf-building, taxi services, bread-making and a neighborhood shop.

This loan will benefit the small microbusinesses of these entrepreneurs, including that of Gladys. She reports that this is the group's first time working with Pro Mujer. She was invited by her sister-in-law, who is a member of Pro Mujer. Currently she has a business selling beauty products. She says that for several years she was a consumer of these products, and eventually she decided to learn the business upon the recommendation of her sister and her aunt.

She is seeking this loan in order to increase her working capital and purchase beauty products. She will buy these items from distributors and then sell them door-to-door. This will enable her to generate income to support her family in the best way possible, since she is single and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the motivation and positive atmosphere that the group provides.

Note: Juana, another member, was unable to be present due to a doctor's appointment.
