Good afternoon! This is the Dios Es Amor y Mi Guia (God Is Love and My Guide) group. Shirley is the President of the group. She is 62 years old, married, and has two grown children. One of them, Doris, is a member of the group.

Shirley has been selling cosmetics and shoes for almost 15 years (before that she was a housewife). She sells the cosmetics by catalog to her neighbors and friends. She buys the shoes in Lima, and she sells them in the forest that she is from. She does this because they do not have much of a variety of shoes there. She likes this very much because she is a very happy person.

Shirley is going to use this loan to buy cosmetics and shoes. Shirley is very proud to belong to the Dios Es Amor y Mi Guia group because it is a very punctual and responsible group. All of the members make their loan payments on time.

A few months ago Shirley was assaulted. She was dragged for some meters by a ‘moto-taxi’ [three wheeled motorized vehicle]. She still has problems with her hip and injuries to her arm. However, Shirley does not want to think about past problems. She only wants to think about what is coming in the future. At this time her hope is to see her daughter happier and personally fulfilled.

Shirley is the woman who talks in the video. She is the second one from the right. Shirley appreciates your support!

¡Buenas tardes!

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
