Merril's story

Merril, 30, is a very cheerful woman living with her daughter, Elizabeth, who she cares for alongside her parents in he own house. She’s a tenacious woman who is raising her daughter alone thanks to her crops of various products like potatoes, garlic and carrots she grows on her own land. She comments that she spends every morning caring for her food; she fertilizes, weeds and nourishes constantly. “The quality of the foods very much depends on it,” she comments. Once harvested, she sells them in a market in the city of Huancayo. Parallel to this work she also raises cattle and earns daily income. She’s now focusing on planting garlic because this is a good season for planting it and she hopes to earn good profits in the market.
