A loan of $625 helped to buy a crane to lift engines, a metal spray gun and a compressor.

Henry's story

Henry is 22 years of age, and owns a car workshop with a partner. The shop is located in the city of Bogotá where he lives, and is where he carries out his engine and accessory repair business, as well as assessing breakdowns and installing accessories.

Henry’s father began to teach him the tasks related to car mechanic services when he was 15, and little by little he has undertaken his own business venture. He now has regular, loyal customers, which he has obtained through referrals from car companies. He works from 8:30 am until 7 pm, and he offers his services on a cash and credit basis to customers who he knows well, and who are part of his purchaser network.

Henry would like to become more independent and have his own workshop, and is undertaking car mechanic training so that he can be up-to-date with the latest developments in the industry. His greatest challenge is the lack of tools and working capital to make this move, and this is why he has requested a Kiva loan. This is the first financing he has applied for from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, and he will use it to buy a crane to lift engines, a metal spray gun and a compressor. Henry’s goal is to have his own workshop in the future, and to improve his car repair and maintenance services. To do so, he is constantly preparing himself on a day-to-day basis.
