A loan of $1,175 helped to buy fabrics of different colors.

Raul's story

Raúl is 54 years of age, and lives with his wife and two of his three children. They live independently in a house they bought 13 years ago. For the past 31 years Raúl has made traditional skirts from his region, which are called “faldas plisadas” [pleated skirts] and “faldas de mil rayas” [skirts with a thousand stripes]. He runs his own workshop which he set up at home, along with his wife and one of his family members, who work in the shop with him.

When there are more orders, Raúl hires a further two people, who take the work to their own homes in order to save on electricity. He enjoys his job because he was taught to do it from a young age, and it allows him to spend enjoyable time with his family. His years of experience in this area mean that he has regular customers, who always come to buy these skirts. He also obtains new customers by word of mouth, due to the good work he does. He would like to improve his workshop, equipping it so that he can cover orders from other cities.

Raúl belongs to a loan group called “Los Puntuales del Ovalo”, and this is their seventh loan with MFP. He is happy to know that he forms part of a group of people he considers part of the family, and he can learn a lot from them. He therefore promises to pay his loan installments on time. Raúl plans to invest the money he has requested in the purchase of fabrics of different colors and textures. He will buy large quantities of these so that he can continue with his embroidery business.
