Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,800 helped a member to buy more cafe stock.

Mkwalia Group's story

Mwashabani, who is in her late 30s, is single with two boys who still go to school. She has had a cafe business for two years now. She works from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and she is able to make a good monthly profit.

She requested a second loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She used the previous loan to buy cafe stock and pay her boys' school fees, and she has paid back her loan successfully. She hopes for a loan to buy more cafe stock. Her dream is to one day be able to open a big grocery business.

She will share this loan with her loan group, "Mkwalia," which has eight members. The members of the group will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.

In this group: Mwashabani, Thabit, Jacline, Zena, Aisha, Sultan, Habiba, Ashura
