A loan of $4,500 helped a member to buy merchandise.

El Almendro (Portoviejo) Group's story

Every two weeks the members of the El Almendro meet in Portoviejo. This group is made up of nine men and two women who each work in different areas, such as general merchandising and services among other things.

Liliam lives here. She is 43 years old, divorced, and doesn’t have any children. She lives with her elderly parents whom she helps financially.

She earns a living as a housekeeper, but also sells all types of clothing, bed sheets, and various other types of products door to door in the evenings and on the weekends in her spare time. She sells on credit and collects weekly. She’s been doing this for three years and it provides her with a good income.

She will use the money from this loan to buy merchandise such as pants, blouses, t-shirts, sheets, and other articles of clothing. This is the first cycle for the communal bank. She’s the president and hopes to stay for a long time.

Her dreams are for her business to improve and to have a shop someday.

The small photograph is of two members who could not be there when the group photo was taken.
