Mil Soles Group's story

This communal bank is called “Mil Soles” (“Thousand Suns”). It is made up of 19 entrepreneurs who do various kinds of work, among which are selling clothing, making pastries, artisan work, plumbing services, slab work, decorations for the home, and services, among others. All of them are from the city of Osorno.

Lorena, a member of the communal bank, is standing in the first row in the photo, third from the left. She is wearing a dark green jacket, her hair is long, dark brown, and styled, and she is wearing some pearl earrings.

She works in handcrafts and has made ribbon adornments and wedding invitations for 2 years. She says that she works in her house every day and her schedule is distributed according to her availability.

She buys the merchandise and supplies she needs in the city of Santiago at different distributors and stores where she finds items for making the wedding invitations at a low cost and therefore at an economic advantage.

With the loan, she will buy foam and special paper to make all kinds of cards.

The goals for the business are to grow, to add more decorations and flower arrangements to the events, and to continue selling wedding invitations, birthday cards, and whatever her customers order for special events.

Lorena lives with her husband and four children, aged 3, 8, 10, and 20, who are students. Her dreams at the family level are to have her own house and to give her children the best, a good quality of life and education so that tomorrow they will be great professionals.

She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity given by Fondo Esperanza, since it will let her invest in her business. With respect to the communal bank of which she is part, she says that in it there is very good communication. On the other hand, the trainings have helped them to learn new sales and accounting strategies.

Osorno is a city located in the southern part of Chile in the Los Lagos region. It is an important farming center, identified as “The Country of Milk and Land of Meat” of Chile. Notable among its farming activities are wheat and oat cultivation and raising cattle for meat and milk processing, as well as farm equipment production. Osorno has the distinction of having the only indoor soccer stadium in Chile, the Rubén Marcos Municipal Stadium.
