A loan of $700 helped to pay hired labour to cut 7,000 square metres of corn, to pay for the hire of a machine to grind hay and to make the silage to feed two cows, and to clear the terrain on order to sow beans.

Prudencio's story

Prudencio is 51 years old. He lives with his partner and his three children. He was married but had problems with his wife, so they separated and he started to live with his current partner and his three children from his previous marriage. He has been a farmer since his youth, as he learnt the work with his father. He says that he is happy with the work he carries out.

He buys his agricultural supplies in the closest city which is eight kilometres away. He walks 30 minutes to get to where there are vehicles and buses. He takes one which takes about 15 minutes to arrive to where he buys everything he needs. Then, once he has acquired everything, he has to carry it all himself to his house.

The loan he is requesting from Fundación Campo is to pay hired labour to cut 7,000 square metres of corn, to pay for the hire of a machine to grind hay and to make the silage to feed two cows, and to clear the terrain on order to sow beans. With this investment Prudencio states he will avoid having to buy feed for his cows in the dry season, he will sow greater quantities of product, he will be able to feed his family and he will sell a part in order to receive income for the household.
