A loan of $675 helped buy fertilizer and clear the land of weeds.

María Guadalupe's story

María Guadalupe started growing coffee twenty years ago, the occasion of her marriage to Marcos. At the beginning it was very difficult as although they had the necessary knowledge for the work, they lacked sufficient resources to actually run the farm. As time passed, they saved their money and bought land, and now they have yet another problem. The coffee they produce is the conventional kind and they are doing the work necessary to obtain a certificate showing they grow organic coffee.

For the next harvest María Guadalupe and her husband need to buy fertilizer, clear the land, and prepare the earth; for this they need a loan. By doing these tasks they will increase production which at the moment is eight tons, and they wish to get to ten tons. Their dream is to see their four children go to university so they can have better work opportunities in the future.
