A loan of $550 helped to buy merchandise for her store.

Maria Isidora's story

Maria Isidora, 55, is married to Angel, 65, and they live in Alausi, a canton of the Chimborazo Province at the foot of the Gampala hills in the Andean region of Ecuador. The unique style of its attractive streets and buildings are the reason it was declared a National Heritage site, having become one of the biggest tourist attractions for Ecuador. This is why Alausi has increased its commerce, allowing its inhabitants to establish businesses in the areas of gastronomy, agriculture, livestock farming and sales of essential need items, etc.

This is how Maria Isidora, despite the obstacles she faced having come from a family with scarce resources and her lack of education, led her to the idea of opening a store in her sector of the city where there is not much competition, so the demand was quite well known. She set up her grocery store three years ago and offers essential need products. She spends 12 hours a day attending to her business and also carries out agricultural activities. She requested a loan through the Fundacion Alternative to upgrade her store and also buy merchandise to give her customers better service and increase her income, which will provide her with a better quality of life.
