A loan of $1,000 helped to buy manure and animal feed.

Gladis Beatriz's story

Gladis has been a member of the “14 de Agosto” communal bank for three years. She lives in Zhidmad Parish in Cuenca. Its topography is quite fractured which gives it picturesque scenery. Its residents are proud to retain their culture and traditions. They work in agriculture, animal husbandry and many of them have various jobs in the city.

Gladis is 38-years-old, married and has three children who are 20, 18 and 15 years old. Her oldest son works and helps her out economically and her younger two children attend a secondary school in the city. Her husband works in construction, an occupation he learned while still very young. They built their house together as a couple.

She does her housework and also works hard doing work in the field; her harvests are for home consumption. She also raises guinea pigs, chickens, cows and pigs that she sells in her community. The money from the loan will be used to buy feed for all of her animals and manure to improve her crops and pasture ground. Her goal is to expand the animal husbandry business.
