A loan of $1,550 helped to buy manure and cocoa bean plant grafts.

Juana's story

Juana, 51, is a widow but thanks to her late husband and her work they managed to buy the house she now lives in with her two children who support her all the time.

Her activities are growing coffee and cocoa beans. She owns land that she bought with much effort. She tills the land with help from her children and day laborers who do the weeding, harvesting and transporting the gathered beans to the highway to be transported by truck. What she enjoys most about her work is the freedom it gives her since she decides what’s best for her crops. She’s been doing this work for 28 years and considers the most difficult part having to combat the pests that take hold of the buds.

This is her fifth MFP loan and she knows that she must be punctual with her payments if she wants to have access to future loans. She feels very happy to be a member of her communal bank and gives of herself for her group’s development.

She will use the 4000 new soles to buy manure and cocoa bean plant grafts.
