Huatusco, Mexico / Farming

A loan of $475 helped to buy fertilizer and coffee plants.

Pascual's story

Pascual is a farmer who has been producing sugar cane and coffee for more than 22 years. At the beginning he worked for other people, but over time he saved money to buy his own land and also inherited a parcel from his father. Pascual produces organic coffee and no longer uses chemical products on his land. He has been certified to produce this type of coffee. During his last harvest, Pascual produced 6 tons of coffee that he gave to the "Union Regional de Huatusco" to be processed and exported.

For his next harvest, Pascual needs fertilizer and new plants because some have finished their productive cycle. In order to make this happen he needs a loan that he will pay back after the harvest. Doing this work over the next 3 years of production, Pascual will be able to increase his output to 9 tons which is very exciting for him.

Pascual is married to Alejandra and they have 2 children, whom he would like to be able to give the opportunity to study at university so they are better prepared for the future.
