Señor Del Calvario Group's story

Marizza, 42, is married and has three children (19, 17 and 12 years of age). She is from the city of Calca and still lives there. Marizza is a responsible, enterprising, young woman who likes challenges. She has a stand where she sells clothes and shoes via catalogue. She’s been in this business for five years now and does very well.

On this occasion, Marizza needs the loan to buy merchandise like shoes and clothes, for example. Her dream is to open a restaurant to sell delicious ‘ceviche’ [marinated seafood cocktail]. Marizza is raising her hand in the photo.

This group is composed of neighbors and friends who formed the “Señor del Calvario” (Lord of Calvary) communal bank in Calca Province, Cusco Department. The communal bank is formed by people who are always in search of opportunities to get ahead through their daily efforts and to provide a better future for their children. Some of the various activities of the members are: buying and selling corn, grocery sales, fruit sales, food sales and some of the provide taxi service.

The members as a whole are grateful for the opportunity provided and commit to make their various installment payments as scheduled.

Cusco is located in Cusco District and Province in Cusco Department. It’s at the very heart of the ancient city of the Incas and is noted for being a tourist destination because of its archaeological sites, its historic city center, its scenery, its history and for being an enchanting city in the southern region of the country. Cusco is also known for its traditional Inti Raymi festival and because one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machupicchu, is located here.
