Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $350 helped a member to buy fertilizer and hire laborers.

Kothokanu Group's story

Sama, the group leader, is both a farmer and a trader, and Yamakoro is a farmer. Both friends grow vegetables, corn and rice. Their families depend on farming for food and income.

When they heard about Kiva supporting the active poor with loans to improve their economic status, they approached Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) and requested a loan of Le.1, 000,000 ($350 USD) to expand their farm activity. The loan will be used mainly for hiring labourers and purchasing fertilizer.

These two friends are working hard to survive on what their farms are able to produce. They need a small loan from Kiva to help bolster their productivity and improve their lives.
