A loan of $1,500 helped to buy potato seeds and fertilizer.

Ignacio's story

Ignacio is 34-years-old and his spouse is Maribel, 28; they have four children, all minors. This family lives in their own house in an agricultural district.

His parents taught him to work the land since he was a boy and when he started his own family he already had experience in agriculture. He started growing all varieties of potatoes and sells each one of his harvests in the central market in the nation’s capital where profits are better. He proudly says that he used to prefer selling his potatoes in his own city but it’s more profitable if he goes to Lima to do so. Because of this he works hard because he wants to buy a pick-up truck to get around more easily not just going to the capital but also to other cities in the country because Ignacio wants to become a wholesaler.

This is his 7th MFP loan and he promises to be punctual with his monthly installment payments. He belongs to the “Trabajemos Juntos” (Let’s Work Together) communal bank and he feels very grateful for the support within the group. Ignacio will use this money to buy Yungay variety potato seeds (1500 soles) and sacks of fertilizer with the rest of the money.
