A loan of $1,500 helped to purchase 20 sacks of seed potatoes of the variety "Yungay" (using 1,000 Peruvian soles). The remainder will be used to buy fertilizers.

Juan's story

Juan is 51 years old and is married to Hilda, who is 44. They have six children, but now only two of them live at home: David, who is 14, and Veronica who is 12. Juan and his family live in a rustic house, but it is their own home.

He has worked for over 20 years as a farmer, growing potatoes of different varieties. When his crops are ready for harvest, he packs them and sells them in the central market of the city. He also grows peas and beans, because the prices are good. "The potatoes from this area are very tasty, and the people like the variety of colors and flavors", he says, explaining the secret to his quick sales. For many years, the main varieties he has cultivated are "Yungay" and "Perricholi". He adds that the work is very tiring and requires a lot of investment, especially if the crops are planted in distinct areas, as they are in his case.

Juan is an earnest and responsible man, and he puts a great deal of care into what he does. This is his 11th loan with MFP, and as always he will be punctual in making his monthly repayments. He belongs to the communal bank “Trabajemos Unidos”, where he is the secretary. He is pleased to be working with the other members.

He will use the loan proceeds to purchase 20 sacks of seed potatoes of the variety "Yungay" (using 1,000 Peruvian soles). The remainder will be used to buy fertilizers.
