A loan of $1,000 helped buy clothing.

Mariela Viviana's story

The Ilusiones (Illusions) community bank meets every other week in the district of El Progreso, city of Portoviejo. This is a very populated urban zone in the city known as the area with the prison since the women's prison of Portoviejo is located here. Mrs. Mariela lives here. She is 33 years old and a single mother to an eleven year old boy who attends school. She lives in her parents' house. She is a business secretary and also works selling lingerie, perfume, and sheets. She works every day at her job and at night sells her products around the city to her acquaintances and friends. She sells a lot of her merchandise on credit and collects every week or every other week according to her customers' preference. The perfumes and lotions are sent to her from an aunt in the United States and she buys the clothing and sheets in Guayaquil once a month. She has been working at this for more than four years and it is a lot of help toward getting ahead with her son.

This loan is to be used to go to Guayaquil to buy clothing since a good season is coming and she wishes to be prepared. She is a founding member of the community bank and she likes it because the institution provides her with a lot of assistance. Her dreams are to provide her son with all the best so that he will be successful.
