A loan of $1,400 helped to buy moisturizing products, weight reduction products, and cosmetics.

Carmen Elena's story

Carmen, age 57, sells natural medicines, cosmetics, clothes, perfume, and similar items. She started the business in 1999 when one of her friends taught her how. Before being an entrepreneur, she worked as an employee in a company.

Her main products are clothes, skin care products, moisturizers, products for weight control, and beauty products. She offers these products directly to her customers without intermediaries. She sells for cash and on credit. She has established a fixed clientele of housewives, independent workers, and people who work in businesses who also buy from her.

Her clientele has now grown, and she does not have enough working capital to respond to their orders. Therefore she needs to wait to recuperate her money from her accounts receivable.

That is why she turns to a Kiva loan. This is her first loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She will use the loan to buy moisturizing products, weight reduction products, and cosmetics. These products will respond to her market. They will increase her sales volume and the structure of her business, which is the eventual objective she is pursuing.
