A loan of $500 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and soft drinks.

Angela Mercedes's story

The communal bank "Eighth of May" meets every two weeks in the beautiful city of Portoviejo, the capital of the province of Manabi and known as the City of the Valley, a city with a warm climate, beautiful women, and a widely varied gastronomy.

Señora Angela is 44 years old. She is divorced, and from her marriage she has two children, ages 24 and 17. The youngest is in secondary school, and the older one has a careen. Both still live with her.

She is a housewife who, in order to obtain her own resources and use them to advance alone with her daughters, works in commerce. She sells products by catalog, such as clothing, shoes, or products from Avon or Yanbal (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and accessories for women). She has been working in this type of business for more than 10 years, and six months ago, she used her savings to set up a little distributorship for soft drinks and beverages. She works every day in all her businesses, and it is going very well for her. With this, she has succeeded in advancing.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and soft drinks to stock her warehouse. She has been in her communal bank for 13 years. She is the treasurer of the group, and she likes it because her fellow bank members are very compliant.

Her dream is to have a truck to make the deliveries of her products.
