A loan of $700 helped to purchase perfumes, creams, cosmetics and other products.

Laura Magdalena's story

The members of the Community Bank, La Frontera de Urvavisa, meet every two weeks in the city of Portoviejo. Portoviejo is also called the Valley City, and is surrounded by green, lush mountains and beautiful scenery. Laura is 29 years old, and lives in the city of Portoviejo with her husband and their two children, who are 11 and 9 years old, and who are both in school. Her husband works as a master welder. Laura takes care of their home, and, in order to generate additional income to help with household expenses, she also has a retail business where she sells health and beauty products from catalogs. She sells products such from Avon, Esika, Oriflame and Yanbal, all of which are health and beauty lines for women. She travels door to door making sales, and she works on three to four day rotations, selling many of her products on credit and collecting payments from clients every 8 days. After more than six years in the beauty sales field, things are going really well for Laura. Her most popular items are perfumes and cosmetics. She plans to use the support from this loan to purchase perfumes, creams, cosmetics and underwear to further stock her business. She has been a member of the Community Bank for four years, and is now the president of the group. She enjoys being a member, as she feels the group is very unified. Her dream is to become a director for one of the brand names she currently sells.
