A loan of $575 helped to buy natural fertilizers and island guano to scatter among her plantings.

Teodora's story

Teodora is a strong and determined woman. She is married to Jorge, with whom she has four children. But now she only lives with one of them: Jorge Luis, whom she takes care of with much love, in the house she bought 30 years ago.

Her specialty is growing potatoes. From an early age she learned that in the highlands, where her farmland is located, the land produces very well.

Very early each day, she gets ready to walk half an hour to her land. There she looks after her crops, fertilizing them, and keeping them free of pests and weeds.

Despite having problems with her vision, Teodora is a determined woman. That strength grants her the courage to keep on farming, since as she says, there are seasons when the market price goes down, and the needed profits are not obtained.

Her products: potatoes, lima beans, corn and peas, she sells in the nearby city or in the country's capital. Now she wishes to raise the necessary capital to be able to buy her own farmland, as what she has now she rents.

She belongs to the “Central Checche” solidarity group, and this is her ninth loan with MFP, so she hopes to continue with this financial support. She likes working in her group, where each day she learns new things about her business. As well, she promises to make her instalment payments on time.

Teodora will use this money to buy natural fertilizers and island guano to scatter among her plantings.
