A loan of $375 helped a member to buy pig feed for her pig-raising business.

Ruom's Group's story

Living in a rural village of the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province, Cambodia, Ruom is 40 years old and she is a married mother of six children, five daughters and one son, all of whom are dependent on her and still in school.

She and her husband have earned a living through pig-raising and rice-wine producing. They have been in these businesses for almost 20 years. Ruom has been with Kiva’s partner VisionFund for one cycle and completely paid back the loan. The other group member is a first-cycle client of VisionFund.

The first loan helped Ruom to better support her family and support the children’s education. Now she is leading her group of two to apply for a loan. Ruom will use her portion to buy pig feed for her pig-raising business. She hopes to raise her pigs to be healthy and fat so as to gain more income and improve her living conditions and especially to keep her children in school.
