Nuru Group's story

The customer, Kavira, is the leader of the Nuru group. She is about 33 years old, married and the mother of 3 children. This customer plays an active role in the creation of jobs. She works in a dressmaking and sewing workshop. She and her husband work together in this business. She started her business by buying a sewing machine with her own funds, after having been a victim of a natural catastrophe - the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano in 2002. Later on, she received a loan from the MFI Hekima to augment her funds. She has just completed 19 loan cycles. Kavira sets up her workshop at the central market of Virunga. This new loan will be used to buy items including fabric with which to make women's clothing and men's jackets, buttons, poplin, paper and scissors. She also aims to move her business and re-establish it close to the centre of town, to gain more visibility and new markets. The customer thanks Hekima for its actions to support disadvantaged people excluded from regular bank lending channels.
