A loan of $775 helped to purchase quality fertilizers and healthy stalks of cassava to plant.

Luis's story

Luis is 37 years old. He is a hard worker and a persevering man, but also cheerful and kind. He is married to Lurdes, and together they have three children, who are ages sixteen, nine, and two. He is a farmer and works on 37 acres of land he acquired fifteen years ago, when he arrived in the area from his homeland. He currently has 12 acres of planted cassava, five of which are in the production phase, and only 2.5 are in the harvest phase. He sells his products in the main local market, and part of them in other cities. He works with help from four other people who are with him from the planting and maintenance stages until it's time to harvest and sell the products. He also has 2.5 acres of citrus trees he is currently working on. He enjoys working in the fields because of the peace and fresh air the environment provides. He is also very satisfied with the financial income his work generates, which he uses to pay for expenses at home and for his children's education. He plans to expand his business and start a new project growing oil palms, which is a booming venture. This is his tenth loan with MFP and he is happy with the financial support he is receiving because it will allow his business to advance. He also says he is comfortable with his communal bank, and considers all of its members to be responsible and highly committed people. He will invest the amount requested, 2,000 nuevos soles, in expanding and planting cassava. He will purchase healthy stalks and quality fertilizers.
