Luis's story

Luis is 61 years old, a hard-working and persistent man, as well as friendly and cheerful. He has two children, with whom he lives in his own house, which was purchased thanks to the savings from his work after a considerable about of time. His occupation is agriculture. He has an [area] of land 10 hectares in size. There, he plants yucca, corn, and in some seasons, bananas. The region in which he lives is considered [to have] soil that is [very] conducive to planting yucca. His yield is very good and the quality of his crops is in accordance with the demands of his customers. He carries out the sale of all that he has harvested in the main market of his town. He has been in this business for more than 15 years and always works with the help of two people to whom he contracts the main field labor. He likes agriculture; initially he worked in this field out of the necessity to have a profession. He says that when he was young, he had great troubles [with respect to] obtaining work that would allow him to continue with his studies. Having found no [job that would allow this], he did not complete is education. At the present time, he is content with his life in the field since it has brought him a great deal of satisfaction and has allowed him to live a peaceful life with a great number of plans for the future. This is his first loan with MFP [Microfinanzas Prisma]. He is happy and grateful for the financial support that [MFP] offers him to continue with his business. In addition to this, he is comfortable with the credit counselor and the members of his community bank because he [personally] knows the members. The majority of [the members] are his neighbors, and he considers them to be responsible people. With the requested amount of 1000 nuevo soles [Peruvian currency], he will purchase corn seeds and fertilizer to start a new [crop] planting. He will also contract out the transportation of his yucca harvest to the market.
