A loan of $775 helped to buy seeds of the "capiro" varietal of potato and natural fertilizers to scatter on her next plantings.

Maruja's story

Maruja is 49 years old. She is married to David and they have four children. Currently only one of them, Juan, lives with them. She inherited the house they live in from her father 30 years ago. She is a farmer and she grows corn, grass, and potatoes. She tells us that potatoes are one of her main crops because for several years now she has sold her entire harvest to a processing business that offers her stable profits and the average market price. For this reason, she wants to keep growing a large quantity of potatoes. However, she does not only do this, rather she also sews clothing and raises guinea pigs. She has 50 of these, which she feeds the alfalfa that she grows herself to minimize her costs. She belongs to the Virgen de la Candelaria Communal Bank and this is her fourth loan with MFP. During this entire time, she has worked very hard to stay focused on her goals, which is why she promises to make her payments on time. Maruja will use the money from this loan to buy seeds of the "capiro" varietal of potatoes, as well as natural fertilizers to scatter on her next plantings.
