Marcelina's story

Marcelina is 35 years old. Her partner is Tomas, with whom she has two children who are 15 and 12 years old. This family lives in their own house, which they built on land in an indigenous community in the central forest. She works as a farmer. Starting when she was a child, she learned how to do this activity by helping her parents. Now that she has her own family they also perform the same work. She possesses three plots of land in which she plants coffee. "This year the harvest was good, but I did not earn much because the prices were low" she said. Coffee is the product she sells with the most success in the harvest months (April to June). Her earnings are complemented by the planting of bananas and yuca. For his part, Tomas has worked in a sawmill for two years. There he receives a fixed salary. By these means they can provide for their children and seek a better quality of life. This is her 9th loan with MFP and just like in the previous cycles, she mentioned that she will be punctual in the payment of her portions. She feels satisfaction and identifies with participating in her community bank "Flower of San Juan" because of the work they complete as a team. She will invest these 3,000 soles in the payment of workers who will clean her harvests. She will spend almost 400 soles on each parcel. What remains will be used to acquire fertilizers.
