A loan of $1,350 helped to invest in maintaining her land, where she grows plantains plantains, and to purchase vegetables and tubers to sell at her stall.

Marelith's story

Marelith is 33 years old. She is an enterprising and charismatic woman and a very hard worker. She is married to Hipólito, who is a farmer, and they have two children together, who are ages sixteen and six.

She has nearly 35 acres of land, where she grows plantains and other regional fruit. She hires a seasonal worker to help with her crops, and sells all of her produce at a stall she has at the local main market. She has had the stall for five years, but has been farming ever since she was very young. She started out helping in other stalls, but now has her own location where she works with help from her husband and her oldest son, who help her load and carry the heavy merchandise. She is very eager to keep expanding her business, which is why she now wants to supplement it by selling some of the vegetables her customers request most.

This is her fifth loan with MFP and she is very happy knowing she has financial support in order to increase her work capital. She is also certain that she will continue to be a responsible member who pays her installments on time, as she did with previous loans. She enjoys belonging to the communal bank where she works, because all of its members are responsible and very supportive of each other.

She will invest the loan she has requested, 3,500 nuevos soles, in maintaining her land and growing plantains, which are her main product. She will also use part of the money to purchase vegetables and tubers to sell at her stall.
