A loan of $1,200 helped to buy more braids, weaves and threading equipment.

Stella's story

Stella is 32 years old and lives in the town of Mbarara, Uganda. She is married and has three children who are all currently in school. For the past 7 years, Stella has been working hard to manage her salon, where she retouches, treats and plaits hair.

To help expand her business, Stella has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more braids, weaves and threading equipment, and will help Stella to generate greater profits and it will improve her family's standard of living. Stella hopes that in the future she will be able to own a bigger salon.

Stella is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Stella who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
