A loan of $750 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farm.

Leang's Group's story

Leang is a 35-year-old married mother of two daughters, both of whom are dependents and still in school. She lives in a rural area located in the Prey Chhor district of Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia. Leang has been a rice farmer for several years and supplements her family’s income by planting beans. She is able to earn about KHR 25,000 per day and manages to save about KHR 8,000 each day after daily expenses. The main challenge to her business is low crop yields caused by insects.

Leang’s group consists of three members who live in the same village. This is the first loan of all members in the group with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She and her group members are applying for a loan of KHR 1,000,000 each. Leang, the group leader, is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farm and pay for laborers. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income and also hopes to expand her current business to improve her standard of living.
