Tosagua, Ecuador / Food Stall

A loan of $1,500 helped to buy chicken, soda, provisions, and Yanbal products.

Cunegunda Monserrate's story

Tosagua Communal Bank meets every two weeks in the city of Tosagua. It's known for being a very dynamic place where, because it's an area with a lot of vegetation, the majority of the residents work in agriculture and raising animals.

Monserrate, 38, lives here. She's married and from this relationship has two daughters, ages 18 and 4. The older one is a college student. Her husband is a taxi driver.

She has a rotisserie chicken restaurant in a place she rents downtown. She works there every day from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Also, in the morning she works selling clothing and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories). She also sells these things in her place if a customer needs something. She has had her business for more than 19 years and it always has gone very well for her.

This loan is to buy chicken, soda, and various provisions to make the dishes, as well as clothing and Yanbal products.

She has been in the communal bank for 11 years. She's the fiscal regulator and she likes it because of the help with loans that the institution gives her.

Her dream is to have her own place.
