A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase soaps.

Tiessiri Group's story

Made up of married women, the Tiessiri group's average member is 50 years old and has 5 children. They live together with their traditional extended families, with their husbands, co-spouses, brothers, and sons. They live in the Torakabougo neighborhood of Bougouni (the 3rd administrative district of Mali.)

The women of the group came to know each other as neighbors, and through friendship and business. In order to increase their financial capacity and to better stock up, they have partnered with the microfinance organization Soro Yiriwaso. This is their first loan.

This group of women is in the soap business, led by Fanta. Fanta is the president of the group, pictured holding a child. She plans to use her portion of the loan proceeds to purchase 5 boxes of soaps from the wholesalers of Bougouni. Fanta will then resell them at retail, both for cash and on credit, in a market to both men and women customers. She hopes to earn an average monthly profit of 15,000 francs CFA which she will reinvest in her business.
