Tokuru-Omarsu Group's story

Meet the members of the “Tokuru-Omarsu” group from Makeni, a city in Northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of SLL 1,000,000 for each. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions.

Mabinty is the leader of this group. The 48-year-old is married to a businessman and they have three children - one in primary school and two in secondary school. Mabinty has been a businesswoman for more than 20 years now. Currently, she is selling gara-lappers (locally dyed cloth). With her share of this loan, she is going to buy gara-lapper making materials like inks, caustic soda, powder, white cotton cloth, etc. in order to produce a large quantity of gara-lappers to add to her business inventory.
