Karina Maricela's story

Karina is single and twenty. She lives in the town of Latacunga, in the province of Cotopaxi. Latacunga is located 2,750 metres above sea level, in the Andes, a few kilometres from Cotopaxi, the most active volcano in the world. These past few years, Latacunga has been steadily growing until it became one of the most important cities of the north face of the mountain range. Latacunga's primary activities are agriculture, animal husbandry and commerce. It has also become a national heritage site thanks to its cultural, architectural, and historical significance. Karina lives with her parents, she sells food, a trade she learned from them. She works about eight hours a day, alone. She asks for a loan to buy a greater supply of food and thus sell to more customers. If she manages that, she will improve her income and her quality of life. Karina's dream is to finish her studies, this loan is an essential step towards accomplishing her goals.
