A loan of $4,800 helped a member to buy books for her stall.

Amigos Emprendedores Group's story

One of the members of the group is 22-year old Bertha who is 6-months pregnant and is in a common-law relationship. She was born in the town of Ollyantaytambo but now lives in the beautiful city of Cusco. Bertha is a hardworking and responsible young woman who enjoys looking at archeological remains. She has run a bookstall for a year and the business is doing well. She is now in need of a loan to buy merchandise such as books (in the photo she is the one with her hand raised).

The name of this group is Amigos Emprendedores and is made up of neighbours and friends. They live in the province and department of Cusco. The members seek every opportunity they can to get ahead and make an effort every day to provide their children with a better future. They are involved in a variety of jobs such as selling books wholesale, selling candy, and driving a taxi. The members are grateful for this opportunity and promise to repay the loan according to the schedule.

(The people in the foreground of the photo arrived late to the community bank’s meeting.)
