A loan of $900 helped a member to purchase farm inputs and seeds.

Benkadi I Group's story

The members of the group "BENKADI I" are married women averaging 30 years of age and five children each all living in polygamous families in GOLOKOUNA, a village in SIKASSO (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their second loan with the institution. The past loan was indeed paid back.

The crop grown is sorghum, as is the case with MAMINATA, who is standing in the middle of the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase farm inputs and seeds to maintain 1.5 hectare.

After the harvest, the produce is sold in the village and at the SIKASSO market to a customer base composed of men and women. MAMINATA plans on making an average profit of 185,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with day-to-day expenses.

In this group: Maminata, Alimata, Fatoumata, Dialia, Kadia, Tenin, Kadiatou, Aramata, Djeneba Yacou, Kadiatou
