A loan of $1,025 helped a member to buy agricultural inputs and seeds.

Benkadi C Group's story

The members of the Benkadi C group are married women, who average 30 years of age, have three children each and who all live in polygamous families in Golokouna, one of the villages in Sikasso, Mali's third administrative region.

They are collaborating with the microfinance institution, SoroYiriwaso, in order to be able to carry on their farming activities during the winter season. They are on their second loan from the institution and the previous loan was repaid in full.

Kadia, who is standing in the middle of the photo, farms sorghum. With her loan she is planning to buy agricultural inputs and seeds for 1.5 hectars of land. Once harvested, the crop is sold in the village and at Sikasso's market to a customer base made up of men and women.

She is expecting to make an average profit of 180,000FCFA per season. This profit will enable her to repay her loan and also to help out her husband with the daily expenses.
