A loan of $1,500 helped to purchase three cows to raise and five 100-lb bags of feed for his cattle.

José Elías's story

Sr. José is 44 years old. He is a cattle merchant as well as a farmer, who cultivates basic grains such as maize. Currently he is raising three cows and has had this business for more than 20 years. His family is also involved in this activity, which is a family business.

He buys cattle in market areas surrounding the city and there is a distance of 4 kilometers from his canton to the city. Therefore when he buys livestock in these markets he transports them in his truck.

José will invest the loan in the purchase of three cows to raise along with five 100-lb bags of feed for his cattle. Upon buying three cows to raise and later market, he will be able to increase his monthly sales and will have more cash for buying and selling. He will have more income relative to what he has now and his profit margin will increase.

He wants to build or improve his house because his current residence is made of adobe and plaster, however with the rain the plaster is deteriorating; therefore he wants to rebuild with bricks.
