For over 3 years in Dimalco, Bonifacio, Jonafel, a 36-year-old married mother of 3 children, has made a living through the operation of a general store, selling a variety of food and home use products. She earns about 10,000 PHP a month for these activities.
In 2011, Jonafel joined GDMPC. She is now requesting a loan of 16,000 PHP to purchase new items such as candies, milo (powdered milk mix), shampoo, soaps, etc. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan as a reserve for future emergencies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
