A loan of $600 helped to buy perfume and cosmetics.

Leticia Liliana's story

The “Camino Al Progreso” (Road to Progress) communal bank meets every two weeks in Montecristi Canton that’s known for its pre-colonial culture and for its crafts that are renowned both nationally and internationally; it’s where the famous straw hats come from.

Leticia, 25, lives here. She’s married and has two daughters who are 8 and 7 years old and are attending school. Her husband works in construction.

She’s a housewife who in order to earn her own income to help her husband sells Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women’s accessories). She works three days a week mostly in the morning which is when her daughters are in school and it’s easier for her to make her rounds then. She sells on credit and collects payment biweekly. She’s been in this business for two and a half years and does very well. She likes her work because it doesn’t prevent her from being with her daughters and helping them when they need it.

She will use this loan to buy perfume, creams and cosmetics she needs because she wants to take advantage of special offers this month that are very good. She’s been in the communal bank for more than two years and likes it because the loans are easy to get. Her dream is to give her daughters the best.
