Juana Bautista's story

Juana is 29 years old, separated and the mother of two children, ages 6 and 5. She works hard to help her children succeed. Five years ago she learned the hairdressing business. She does this work in her native village called Chivolo, which is located in the department of Magdalena, in the municipality of Puerto Colombia. This place is located on the shores of the Caribbean. This is where she is a hair stylist. Her future goal is to have her own beauty salon, where she also sells miscellaneous items, in this same town. She has a stable clientele, who she has acquired slowly. She sells them miscellaneous items in addition to cutting their hair. This gives her additional income that she can use to support her children. She sells, on credit, perfume, clothes and shoes among other items that her customers need. They pay her three or four payments, one payment every fifteen days. This is her first loan with KIVA and her first loan with the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. With this loan she will buy a beautician chair, a hair washing station and various merchandise that her customers have requested. With this loan she will have further opportunities to have a gain customer loyalty.
