A loan of $525 helped to buy stock of grocery items, e.g. potatoes, cabbages, carrots, onions, etc.

Michael's story

Michael lives in the Changamwe area of Coast Province, Kenya. He is married and has four school-going children. He owns a grocery shop, a business that he has been operating for 10 years. He started the business through his personal savings. Besides this, Michael also sells charcoal and carries out masonry work.

He learned about Milango through friends who invited him to the group, and he joined the group with the aim of accessing credit to improve his business operations. His main challenges are high transport and fuel costs and seasonal weather.

Michael is applying for a loan of 41,900 Kenya shillings to buy additional stock of grocery items, e.g. bags of potatoes, cabbages, carrots, onions, etc. He will use the extra income from the loan to pay for his children’s school fees. His future plan is to become the wholesaler/supplier of the area.
