A loan of $800 helped to purchase silk, beads, and sewing needles.

Hour's story

Hour S. is a weaver, and lives in Kampong Cham, Cambodia with her husband (pictured) and children. Silk dresses are very expensive because they are hard to make and it takes time to complete each dress. A well-made silk dress with good decoration and silk can cost about $100. Hand woven fabric is more expensive than machine-made, and people prefer hand-made fabric. People wear silk dresses during the Khmer New Year and other traditional ceremonies.

Hour S. earns an average of $9 per day. Her husband teaches the Khmer language. He earns about $1.50 per day, which supplements the household income. They have two children, who are students.

To expand the weaving business, Hour S. is requesting a loan from Kiva to purchase silk, beads, and sewing needles.
